The Use of Screws vs. Nails for Window and Door Installation
The Milgard “red label” located on each window states to use “…equivalent to a 1-¼” roofing nail,” which would include screws. The fasteners need to be corrosion resistant but that is the only other requirement. When we test our products in the lab we use corrosion resistant flat head 1-¼” long screws for and place the screws in the holes in the nail fin every 12‐16” per the red label.
