A Modern Home Remodel Features Clean Lines
This project began with a desire to transform a home from Spanish to Modern. The homeowner had started with interior changes and even added landscaping, but found the exterior of the home to be a challenge. With general ideas in mind, but no overall concept, they brought in Case Design/Remodeling to help accomplish their goal.
The main objectives were to abandon the arches at the front porch and create a clearly defined entryway with a strong sense of architecture to give the home more curb appeal. This was achieved with a mix of modern materials such as aluminum, glass and flush-profile siding with a clad wood tone. The result was a dramatic transformation.
The entry was modernized with a contemporary front door, glass and aluminum garage doors, and a modern custom steel canopy that provided a transition point from the garage around to the entrance. A wider sidewalk was also incorporated.
The homeowner’s desire for clean lines and a clear sight line from the kitchen to back garden also called for switching out an existing window to a large, uncluttered Milgard® Tuscany® Series vinyl picture window in the kitchen, and another placed in the living room.
The homeowners wanted to use Milgard Tuscany Series vinyl windows for this project, having previously used them for replacement windows in the front of the home and rear bedroom. “Milgard has been our primary choice when using vinyl windows due to great quality, good availability, and outstanding service,” said Jim Kabel, owner of Case Design/Remodeling. “From a design standpoint, the right choice was the Tuscany Series Vinyl in white with low E glass and SunCoatMAX®. That conveyed a crisp, clean look, while providing UV protection at the southern facing rear of the home for energy efficiency.”
For those looking to do a home remodeling project, Kabel went on to say, “The design/build process, with concepting, worked quite well for this project. Being able to present 3D concepts to our clients, and denoting the budget ranges for each, made a huge difference and helped ensure their desires were captured prior to committing to detailed design and construction.”
