Contemporary Windows Provide a Fusion of Old and New
This turn-of-the-century home in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood had tons of old-world charm, but that’s about all it had. The homeowners wanted their house to match their active lifestyle and contemporary tastes, so they contracted with CTA Design Builders for a full remodel.
Abundant natural light and a mixture of modern and classic materials were important to the homeowners. They also wanted to preserve the original historic features that gave the house its charm, while making modern updates. The result is a fusion of old and new.
Ultra™ Series Fiberglass Windows Fit the Contemporary Design
Central to the design were Milgard Ultra™ Series fiberglass casement windows in Black Bean, a black color described as “subtle and rich” by Julie Campbell of CTA Design Builders.
The windows were chosen partly because of their low maintenance fiberglass frames. But the windows were also a crucial design element. They maintain the historic feel of the original windows, but they are bigger and more exaggerated, giving the home a more contemporary feel. In the kitchen, steel gray and white colors and materials, along with stainless accents, set off the four black windows.
Windows that Meld Modern with Traditional
When asked about the favorite part of the project? “We love the careful melding of original old features with new modern elements. The windows – all new, and with their oversized divided-light proportions - give a fresh twist to an old style vibe, which is what this remodel is all about!”
